We never see what you own.

Modern Guardian has no account, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. Ora et Labora Technologies LLC, which makes the app, collects no data about you, your team or your gear.

Where your records live

Everything you enter (team members, inventory, firearms and ammunition, loadouts, builds, plans, training logs, photos and notes) is stored on your device. If you switch on Sync with iCloud in Settings, the app copies those records to your own private iCloud database so your iPhone, iPad and Mac stay in step. Apple holds that database under your Apple Account; we cannot read it. Switch sync off and the records stay on the device. The app stores no serial numbers unless you type one into a note yourself.

The one optional lookup

Product lookup online is off until you turn it on. When it is on and you scan a barcode the app has not seen, the app sends only the barcode digits to the free, open product databases Open Food Facts, Open Products Facts and Open Beauty Facts. If you also switch on Also search UPCitemdb, the digits may go to UPCitemdb as well. Nothing else is sent: no name, no device identifier, no inventory or team data. Those services see an ordinary web request, including your IP address, under their own privacy policies. The answer is saved on your device so the same product is not looked up twice.

Camera, photos and Face ID

The camera is used only to read barcodes while the scanner is open. Barcodes are read on the device; no image leaves it.
The app receives only the photos you pick, for an inventory item or a team member. Lifting a photo from its background for the loadout builder happens on the device.
Face ID or Touch ID, when you turn on the app lock, is handled by the system. The app never receives your face or fingerprint data.

Reminders

Expiry and check-in reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. No push service and no server are involved.

Backups

An export is a file you create and keep wherever you choose. You can protect it with a passphrase; it is then encrypted with AES-GCM. We never receive a copy.

Children

The app is meant for adults planning for themselves and the people they look after. A team profile can include a child's age to size food and water, but that stays on your devices like everything else. The app collects nothing from anyone, including children.
